In Memoriam

That professor I mentioned as being in and out of the hospital earlier has just died. Please keep her in your thoughts.

I agreed to take over one of her classes. Everything over here is horrible. Everything.

Now, do I start working on the pile of job apps coming due or the piles of overdue essays? Gah.

Oh, no. I'm so sorry. What an awful thing.

I'm very sorry; 'tis part of life, but it's still hard.

Somewhat cynical but, I believe, appropriate answer to your question: job apps. You are doing something extra to help out your present department at a difficult time. That will have some costs. Given the fact that you are only a temporary part of your present department, those costs need to affect your present job, not your longterm career prospects. Yes, be a good citizen of your present department, and give your students as much time and attention as you can reasonably afford, but even (perhaps especially) at a time like this, look out for your own interests, too.

Holy cow. I'm so sorry to hear this news. I agree with the previous poster, though. Work on those job applications. Very sad.

Agree: sorry for what you, your department, & your colleague's family are going through; but get the job applications out.

BOYCOTT AMERICAN WOMEN
Why American men should boycott American women

Boycott American Women

I am an American man, and I have decided to boycott American women. In a nutshell, American women are the most likely to cheat on you, to divorce you, to get fat, to steal half of your money in the divorce courts, don't know how to cook or clean, don't want to have children, etc. Therefore, what intelligent man would want to get involved with American women?

American women are generally immature, selfish, extremely arrogant and self-centered, mentally unstable, irresponsible, and highly unchaste. The behavior of most American women is utterly disgusting, to say the least.

This blog is my attempt to explain why I feel American women are inferior to foreign women (non-American women), and why American men should boycott American women, and date/marry only foreign (non-American) women.

Tens of millions of American men have had their lives completely destroyed by American women through the following crimes:

1. False rape accusations (it has been proven that up to 80 percent of rape accusations are FALSE)

2. False DV charges (same as above)

3. Financial RAPE of men in divorce courts

4. Emotional destruction of men by ex-wives who have stolen their children from them and forbidden contact

5. Divorced dads who commit suicide as a result

Not one single American woman has EVER condemned their fellow American women for committing these crimes against men. Silence means consent. Therefore, American women support and enjoy destroying men's lives and causing men to commit suicide. Therefore, is it any surprise that a huge percent of American men no longer want anything to do with American women, other than using them for easy sex and then throwing them away?

Over 50 percent of American women are single, without a boyfriend or husband; so the fact is most American men no longer want to marry American women. Let these worthless American women grow old living alone with their 10 cats.

So sorry to hear this. Deaths-in-service are really hard to deal with. I've been through this myself about ten years ago - it's really tough for you, the department and the students, but it's survivable. You just do what you can. And go home and hug your loved ones.

Oh, so sorry. You need to do the job apps. And you need credit for what you are doing now. Being a good person is good; but it's not good to sacrifice yourself.

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear all this stuff is getting dumped on you now. (And condolences for your colleague's death, as well.) I've never had to juggle anything like that, but I would imagine that our senior colleagues who commented above are right: you need to make your own career your first priority and keep the department's cog-and-widget machine as second.

I'm so sorry to hear this news..but yes, get on with those job apps. I agree with all that's said above. Remember that you have to make your career a priority.
