A Question for the Ages

Do I go get chocolate truffle or chocolate mint chip ice cream? Despite needing to prep for class and wash an enormous pile of dishes, not to mention the fact that I made a vow just last night that this quarter I would lose those 10 pounds, I am in need of something dessert-oriented. I'm not so bad as I was the other day, but still feel the need to self-medicate, and as I have neither Prozac or rum in the house, ice cream it is! Of course, I was an idiot and bought lots of healthy fresh food which is merrily rotting away in the refrigerator because I am going to walk downtown and get ice cream instead of eating the fruits and veggies, but what can you do? You certainly can't self-medicate with fresh blueberries, not without some lovely vanilla ice cream on them. And I have no ice cream here or any desserts at all, because of my silly weight loss vow. Ah well, live and learn.

The job search situation remains the same. Still no news. I'm going to not think about publishing anything or my various backup plans B through F (or rather creating more backup plans) tonight; I'm just going to concentrate on how cold and creamy and smooth the ice cream is. Because I know I make stupid decisions when I try to plan stuff at the end of the day when I'm tired and cranky and depressed just on an ordinary basis, much less days like these. Which brings me back to the original question: chocolate chocolate chocolate, or a lighter, more minty chocolate version?

Yep, I too advice heavy on the chocolate. Although with berries, sometimes a really good vanilla suits me.

Mint chip!
Or better yet, both.
(Notice how I haven't commented on anybody's blog in weeks and it takes mint chip ice cream to jolt me out of my stupor.)

Mint chip. But if you have fresh blueberries, I'd go for vanilla, and feel vaguely healthy :)

I think if you walk to get your ice cream, it totally doesn't count. A free pass on the calories.

My vote: always chocolate.

You're probably well and truly sorted on the ice cream front. One of my favourite treats, for a future medication alternative, is to melt Toblerone (or some swiss chocolate) on the stove or in the microwave and then dollop it onto vanilla ice cream. It competely dopes me out on fuzzed up fuzziness.

I am only just starting to get better about when to allow myself to journey into the future. I found myself looking for jobs yesterday for no other reason than a sugar drop and a shonky, unruly paragraph in front of me. This led to looking at other people's CVs, and then worrying about how much more infinitely serious and complex their research interests and work appeared compared to mine, and then feeling really angry at myself for wanting to join a profession that seems to value mind numbing ultra-specialisation above all else, and then I decided I might just have babies and wear franjipanis in my hair.

Today is much less scatty for me and I am more prepared for that 4pm danger zone!

you have to ask yourself: what would a yak herder get?

Hmm, yak-flavored ice cream?

I'm going to have to go with Dr No's E.
